Paro Tshechu

Paro Tsechu is one of the most important festivals of Bhutan. It is also one of the longest festivals celebrated over a period of 4 to 5 days finally culminating in unfolding on the last day of the huge Throngdrul – a painting depicting religious events and life of Buddha. This particular event of the festival takes place before dawn and the Throngdrul is folded again as soon as the sunrises. Huge numbers of worshippers flock in their hundreds gaily attired from all over the country to seek blessings at that moment.

The Festival is marked by various masked dances and observance of intricate rituals in the courtyard of the Rimpung Dzong. Masked performers throw themselves up in the air with amazing agility and jesters provides entertainment in between.
