The Taragaon Museum

The Taragaon Museum Kathmandu is a located inside the premises of the Hyatt Regency a short walk from the Boudhnath stupa a UNESCO protected site.  The Museum was built originally in 1972 by Carl Pruscha and re-opened in March 2014.  It  is owned by Taragaon Regency Hotels Ltd.and supported by The Saraf Foundation.

Not a conventional museum it has exhibits that showcase the “then” and “now” transition of Kathmandu’s rich cultural heritage over a period of 50years as recorded by various scholars and anthropologists.  It provides a rich documentation of the preservation and conservation efforts in Kathmandu valley over the years.

Taragaon Museum is a thriving Centre for Arts & Culture and unique contribution to the architectural history of Nepal.  A visitor will enjoy the various exhibits in the uniquely designed buildings that have been built terraced style.  Besides its permanent collection, the Museum has a Contemporary Art Gallery, Event Hall and two outdoor Amphitheaters.  There are also topical art exhibitions by various artist from time to time.

Enjoy and understand the rich cultural diversity and view the restoration works through the eyes of photographers, artists and researchers. As a bonus the Museum has a very pleasant restaurant serving up a choice of delectable cuisines!
