Nepal has open trekking in the remote regions several areas to the north bordering Tibet, China. To ensure its environmental concerns are protected, treks are only allowed by special permit and must be fully suported trek by a bona fide trekking agency. These truly spectacular areas have fragile eco and cultural system, only limited numbers of trekkers are allowed in these areas every year. A fixed sum of Royalty is charged per trekker and an Environment Officer is designated to assist the trekkers.
Ancient Kingdom Mustang Trek 15 days
It was one of the last forbidden areas opened in Spring 1992. Access from Kathmandu is by flight into Jomsom via Pokhara. First written and publicized by Michel Piessel, the 2 week trek visits the legendary walled city of Lo Manthang. Located in the “rain-shadow” arid zone, it is best trekked from mid April through mid October. The highest point of the trek is at 4070m before Drakmar village.
Day by Day Itinerary
Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, overnight in hotel.
Fly to Jomsom airport, start trekking, camping throughout.
Last day on trek.
Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara and connect same day to Kathmandu.
