This ancient trail is an old route for the “trading caravans” of the region. Traders use sheep, mule and pony for carrying essential goods across Nepal and Tibet, China. Begin or end with the flight to Simikot airfield in the remote north west on the Humla Karnali river.
This is an exit for those who prefer to walk to Nepal after the long drive of a Kailash trip in Tibet. For practical and logistical reasons, it is recommended that this route is used to enter Nepal. The point of exit in Tibet is Shera and entry into Nepal is the Hilsa bridge.
The trek can be also organised in the reverse direction requiring 2 days more for flight from Kathmandu – Nepalgunj – Simikot.
